We are happy to report that Dad's white blood cells have DOUBLED today! They went from .21 yesterday to .4 today! That is still not a lot of white blood cells, but we are thrilled that they are steadily increasing! At this rate hopefully Dad will be out of here in no time!
Today was pretty similar to yesterday, Dad has been mostly alternating between sleeping and walking, with a little bit of Fox news mixed in. His mouth is still pretty sore today. He is still on just enough morphine. The doctors and nurses all say that it's OK if he doesn't eat for a while because of his mouth/throat and digestive system.
The highlight of our day was a visit from Dad's good friend, Randy and his wife, Debby this evening. Dad and I had a good time chatting with them about various topics for a while.
All of the people who work here in the BMT unit are so nice and wonderful! We are so lucky and thankful to be in such good and caring hands! Dad's nurse today and yesterday, Lea (pronounced Lee), actually did cancer drug research before she became a nurse!
Our movie selection tonight is the Legend of Bagger Vance. That's all for today!
Wonderful raise in white cells!
ReplyDeleteI am glad it's okay that Rod doesn't eat if it makes him more comfortable. Sue and I will fatten him up when we get there. I am bringing Becky-made cowboy cookies.
Very nice to have Randy and Debby visit. His friends obviously think a lot of him.
The staff does seem very great in all that you have reported. I think having caring and nice people around is very helpful to healing.
Give Rod a hug from me please!
Awesome news on the white blood cell nearly double increase! Exactly what was supposed to happen! I bet the docs and nurses are especially thrilled to see this big jump. The stem cell army has deployed and it's only been a little over a week. (I'm sure it seems much longer to Rod and everyone there, though.)
ReplyDeleteYes, Joanie and I will be there soon and we will fatten Rod up. Probably won't be able to do as well as Amanda did, but we will try. First, Becky's homemade cowboy cookies to get the ball rolling!
Staff does sound wonderful. Hope we get to meet them all when we arrive.
Hope the movie selection was a good one!
Joan and Sue, thank you guys for being such avid blog readers and for all your support! I'm sure you guys will do a great job fattening Dad back up! Looking forward to seeing you on Friday!
ReplyDeleteThe Legend of Bagger Vance was kind or boring, actually. It was about golf, which must be more fun to play than to watch.
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that Dad's white cells are growing back!!! That means it is only a matter of days before Dad starts feeling MUCH better!
I already feel much better at seeing them double!
Sending everyone much love from Bolivia,
Eva
Yes, it is fantastic that Rod's white blood cells are doubling!! Soon he will be out of the hospital and feeling much improved. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks again so much for the blog. It is great to know what is going on rather than worry and wonder.
Now, Eva has her Bolivia blog to read too! I'm also reading Gena's blog daily, and now Nick is starting one! Blogs are GREAT!!!
Looking forward to the upcoming blog posts from everyone.
