Day -12: A Relaxing Day With Dad, by Vic

Eva, Dad, and I at the Waffle House (our waitress was not a very good photographer)

Hi there! This is Victoria aka Vic. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Dad/Rod's youngest (and favorite) daughter ;]. Eva asked me to update the blog today for the purpose of including the perspectives of other people who are close to Dad and will be with him through this journey.

We enjoyed a nice, relaxing day with Dad today. Eva and I took him out for breakfast this morning at the Waffle House. Dad seemed to be doing well today, other than being a bit itchy (itchiness is a side effect of one of his medications). After a hearty breakfast we took Dad back to Al and Amanda's where we just hung out for a while until Mom showed up to whisk Dad away to Birmingham for his first dose of chemotherapy. Mom and Dad are staying at a hotel in Birmingham tonight. I will leave it to Eva to explain all the complicated medical procedures and drugs Dad will be receiving while in Birmingham!

  1. Correction: Vic is NOT Dad's FAVORITE daughter!

  2. Thanks, Eva and Victoria, for putting this site together to help keep the rest of us informed of Rod's progress (and answers to prayers). But most of all, I thank God that Rod has such a loving and supportive family to help him get through this. I don't think he could have gone through this without all of you (spouses included). You all are the blessing from our Lord that keeps him pressing on to get through this.

I noticed the days are counting down. So what happens 12 days from now? Is that the day the chemo ends and recovery begins?

Vic, I hope your shadowing with Mary goes well today and helps you decide what area of nursing you want to go into.

  3. Hi Vicster, enjoyed reading your post about the relaxing day. And, it is interesting to see that you are considering nursing for a career. That would certainly be a rewarding career!

Good job on taking care of your dad!

  5. Dan, thank you for your wonderful comment :] The daily count down is for Dad's stem cell transplant. Shadowing Mary went great today. She is awesome!

  6. I thought Rod was going to do "Busulfan 1st set levels" today. What does that mean?

  7. Hi everyone,
Dan, to answer your question, we are counting down until the day when Dad gets his stem cells (which were "harvested" and stored about a month and a half ago) transplanted back to him. That is Day 0, and it is 2 days after his last dose of chemotherapy!
Joan, Dad got his first Busulfan dose and level checks today (Monday)!
